Nexum Instrumentation's Spark Synthesizer is a programmable ignition system for engine optimization studies and scientific research. It can be configured to provide different types of spark current waveforms including inductive ignition (without requiring dwell timing circuitry) and multi-strike capacitor discharge ignition. Values of spark current, spark duration, and multi-strike interval are adjustable during engine operation. Analog outputs for ignition energy and spark current are also provided. Applications include the mapping of an engine's ignition energy requirements for different operating conditions, the optimization of spark characteristics for achieving acceptable ignitability while minimizing spark plug electrode erosion, the identification of spark requirements for extending EGR or lean operating limits, and studies involving spark plug fouling problems. Made to order units will be offered for special applications.
Nexum Instrumentation announces the OSPA100, a compact, portable, fast, and efficient alternative to mechanical patternation methods to detect manufacturing variability and defects, rebuild quality, in-service wear, deterioration or blockage for continuous flow devices such as fuel injectors or nozzles for painting, spray drying, or sand blasting. The OSPA100 provides rapid and direct measurements. Video image of spray distribution uniformity, measured patternation index, and other geometric descriptors can be used to continuously and non-intrusively monitor process quality. The digital output can be used directly for quality assurance recording or control functions. Specialized software, engineering support and consulting are also available.
